Life out here at Arcadia is full of beautiful surprises — but none quite like the night my husband, Gman, accidentally grabbed a kangaroo by the face.
It was late. The sensor light near the shed had accidentally been switched off earlier that evening, so everything outside was pitch black.
Gman had popped out to the shed to grab something — as you do — and knowing full well this is Australia, he was waving his hands in front of him to clear any spiderwebs from the path.
It’s what we all do. You never know who’s built what overnight.
And then it happened.
Midway down the path, arms flailing in full “arachnid defence mode,” his hand smacked into something warm... furry... and alive.
The poor man yelped. The poor kangaroo jumped.
They both froze in a very awkward silence.
And then, in true Gman fashion, he blurted out:
“Sorry mate! Didn’t see you there!”
The kangaroo blinked, paused, and casually bounced off — probably a little rattled but entirely unbothered.
Meanwhile, Gman came back inside looking ghost-pale, muttering something about needing “better lighting, fewer roos, and possibly a hot cup of tea and a lie down.”
We still laugh about it now.
Out here, it’s not just the chickens or kombucha that surprise you — sometimes it’s the local wildlife politely lurking in the dark, waiting to be accidentally befriended.
