An October Morning at The Arcadia

· Esther Macharia-Hughes

Spring has brought a few new faces to The Arcadia, and one of them has plenty to say.

Meet Taj, our rescued rooster. He has settled in and taken to looking after the ladies. His morning calls mingle with the wild birds, adding his own voice to the beautiful sounds of nature around here. He certainly knows how to announce himself.

Zeb has four tiny chicks, and watching them find their feet has become another reason to stop what we’re doing for a moment. Dottie has moved into the maternity ward with six eggs of her own. There is always somebody keeping us waiting.

In the garden, the chamomile is ready to harvest. Little flower heads picked and dried now will become cups of tea later—a small pleasure from something we grew ourselves.

There is plenty to do, but these are the moments I want to remember: new chicks, flowers for tea and a handsome rooster making himself at home.

Just another spring morning at The Arcadia.
